Why are some beers not suitable for vegans?
Some breweries use fish or animal-derived products to improve the clarity of their beers – either gelatin or Isinglass. These products are actually derived from the swim bladders of certain fish. These substances, known as finings, bind to yeast and cause it to settle out, leaving behind a clearer beer. They use this method because it is a cheap method.
Why are Pistonhead Lager beers different?
We use something sexy called a PALL Membrane Filter…ok, it doesn’t sound sexy but it does filter our brews amazingly well and has nothing to do with animals, fish, humans, unicorns or dragons.
What beers are in the Pistonhead Lager range?
Kustom Lager – 4.6%
Pistonhead Kustom Lager is custom brewed with a double-clutch of Münchener and Pilsner malt injected with Spalter Select, Magnum and Perle hops that will leave a hint of bitterness on your lips, but never in your heart.
Colour: Medium Gold
Aroma: Malty fragrance with hints of syrup loaf
Taste: A very rich, malty flavour with a balanced and marked bitterness
Hops: Magnum, Spalter Select and Perle
Malts: Pilsner and Münchener
Flat Tire – 4.5%
A lager that pours smoothly without an over-inflated head, Pistonhead Flat Tire has a balanced and rich malt body and balanced, slightly marked bitterness. Centennial and Mosaic varieties of American hops give the brew a fresh floral aroma with hints of tropical fruit and citrus.
Colour: Straw yellow
Aroma: A balanced hop floral aroma with hints of tropical fruit and citrus
Taste: A full-bodied, malty flavour balanced by a pleasant bitterness
Hops: Magnum, Centennial and Mosaic
Malts: Pilsner, Münchener and Light Caramel
Full Amber – 6.0%
Brewed from an assortment of American Cascade, Citra and Centennial hops, the distinctive, fruity aroma of Full Amber is highlighted by a hint of grapefruit. This is balanced by Magnum and Perle German hops that produce a marked bitterness and contribute to a graceful, white solid foam head that puts the crowning touch on every glass that’s poured.
Haze Lager – 5.1%
A beautifully pale yellow, unfiltered, crisp lager with wonderful tones of passion fruit and citrus courtesy of the Australian Galaxy aroma hops. The high alpha acid contents of everyone’s favourite, Magnum, gives a well-balanced bitterness to the brew, which compliments the fine malt body and the great yeast character. Quite simply a lager with refreshing, fruity tones.
